On the Job Training – He’s Still Working on Me

Hey y’all!

I have prayed for you and I am so thankful you’re here!

I know there has been a tremendous amount of time between my last post and now but like the song we used to sing at church when we were little – “He is still working on me.” And I promise you, he’s nowhere near finished.

I used to be a waitress and I absolutely loved my job, the business I worked for, and my bosses. We had been hiring some new servers at the time, which means we were training people like crazy. I found myself not implementing the amount of grace that people deserve and forgetting that I was new once too (and I was terrified and had no idea what I was doing for like 3 months – let’s be real I was lost for like a year).

I was showing someone how to do something and internally I was becoming frustrated that they weren’t as “fast” as I thought they should be. So, instead of letting them learn and figure out their way of doing things, I finished whatever they were doing myself. Honestly, who do I think I am?

God just stopped me in my tracks. He spoke to my heart and told me that he continually gives me grace and second chances, no questions asked. Yet, here I was acting like if the floor isn’t swept MY WAY the sky was going to fall in. FACEPALM. Such a simple lesson yet it washed over me as though I had been hit by a wave.

God opened my eyes to the fact that I am in training myself. I’m in training to live a life that mimics Jesus’ life on Earth and to love others as Christ loved the church- that is our job.

I am in training.

You’re in training.

We are ALL in training.

Guys, what if God decided he’s reminded us how to do something too many times and quit on us? What if he became impatient with how “slow” we are and gave up?

How blessed we should feel that God gives us continual “on the job training”! He knows we’re going to fail and yet every day that we open our eyes, He flips back to page one of our training manual and starts again – God is still working on me.

God is still working on you.

He's still working on me
To make me what I need to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
'Cause He's still workin' on me

Paul is a great example of “He’s still working on me.” There was a time in Paul’s life where he wasn’t Paul at all, but he was an awful man named Saul. Saul was an intensely evil man who moved from city to city persecuting Christians. Jesus stepped into his life and Saul didn’t just change his name, he changed his entire life. And through this amazing transformation, Paul never lost any of his intensity. Instead, he began using that fire to further the kingdom of God.

Paul was one of the first, if not THE first, apostle to start spreading God’s words to the gentiles.

  • Gentile(s): person of a non-Jewish nation or non- Jewish faith

Paul reached outside of the norm, opened his heart to Jesus, and began the task of sharing the good news with EVERYONE no matter their background.

So, when it feels as though we aren’t growing, be still and remember where you came from and where you started:

“But we must hold onto the progress we have already made.” ]Philippians 3:16 NLT

Remember that God is still working on you and he isn’t going to give up until you are a COMPLETE work of art:

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6 NLT

“He has made everything beautiful in its time…” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

Thanks for reading! Remember to give yourself and those around you a little extra grace! After all, we’re are still training.

“How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful!…” Song of Songs 1:15

Don’t forget to love yourself.
